“The Rijksakademie has some fifty studios. Annually, about half are vacated. Of some 1300 applications each year from roughly eighty countries, approximately twenty-five artists are selected for a residency. Resident artists have usually successfully completed their studies and have worked independently as artists for a number of years. Experience has learned that a residency at the Rijksakademie at this stage of their careers (3 to 5 years after studying) has the greatest impact.
Admission is initially for a work period of one year (January to December). Whether a second year is considered worthwhile, will be decided by mutual agreement.”

The Cartier Award

The Cartier Award, for emerging artists living outside the UK, is a major initiative in collaboration with Gasworks and sponsored by Cartier.
What The Cartier Award includes:

A 3 month residency at Gasworks from August to October 2008 including accommodation, per diems and travel expenses
Project production costs of up to £10,000
An artist’s fee of £1,000

2.EXHIBITION PROJECTS (artists and curators)
SAGAMIE will produce a publication accompanying each exhibition project.

Creation projects using the book as the medium and art object.
The proposal must include:
CV (maximum: 3 pages)
Artistic approach (maximum: 1 page)
Description of exhibition project (maximum: 1 page)
Visual documentation : small images (about 5×7″ at 72 dpi) on a CD for Macintosh; slides; prints; or other.
Publishing: Description of collaborators, Curricula vitae of collaborators (author or other).
Indicate if you are under 35 years old.
Clearly indicate the program for which you are applying.
A self-addressed stamped envelope if you wish the proposal to be returned.
