Procura-se artistas cujo trabalho responda às questões da “sobrevivência” em todas as suas distintas percepções. São bem-vindas perspectivas novas ou revisadas; e visões, questões, soluções inovadoras e outras, que sejam provocativas e engajadas, utópicas e progressistas.

A jury consisting of representatives of the hosting organisations will select approximately 30 artists.

THEMES and DIRECTIVES
Humanity faces huge difficulties; our future seems to be less predictable and more complex than ever. The climate is changing, ecological, economical and societal systems are on the verge of collapse. Where are we heading? What do we need? What might happen? What should happen?

We are searching for artists whose work attends to the question of survival in all its different perceptions. We welcome new or renewed perspectives; provocative and engaging, utopian and progressive, visions, questions, innovative solutions and more. The works we are searching for considers the world at large, and/or the local circumstances.
They might be collaborative or individual, modest proposals or grand statements.

You may apply with a previous work or with something completely new, which can be produced on site and in any media.

Phosphorus é um espaço para a experimentação artística. Aberto em dezembro de 2011, ocupa uma casa histórica no centro de São Paulo e se projeta no entorno urbano. Phosphorus é o desejo da criação deste lugar para o encontro, sítio de reuniões, ambiente de convivência e plataforma de desenvolvimento de projetos colaborativos. PH é uma experiência de ser livre de amarras institucionais ultrapassadas. A casa, construída em 1890, possui espaço de trabalho coletivo, ateliês temporários, espaço para residências, ambientes expositivos, escritório de economia criativa, cozinha experimental, um jardim em processo, biblioteca aberta e sala de “estar”. Sua missão é buscar e encontrar formas alternativas de independência material e mental, criando um novo modo de organização da vida em comum, para permitir-nos um constante estado de criação.

Visual Arts Department – Walker Art Center seeks applicants for their prestigious Curatorial Fellowship for Diversity in the Arts.

This two-year fellowship (starting June 2013 through June 2014) supports the Walker’s goal to encourage greater diversity within the museum field. The fellowship has been offered continually since the early 1990’s. Our fellowship alum now play prominent roles within many museums throughout the world. In our terms, diversity refers to a wide spectrum of people of color, people with disabilities, age, gender and other classifications. PCA Summer Creative Residency – An Exchange Between Artists and Designers – June 17–July 26, 2013

Emerging artists are invited to consider how their practice could be developed within the structure of a six-week residency in Paris. The residency’s aim is to enhance the individual’s independent practice by providing them with the space, guidance, and resources necessary to fully investigate a defined project. Residents work from a large communal studio; in addition, they have access to the ceramics, welding, woodworking and mold-making workshops, photography studio and darkroom, printmaking facility, fashion atelier and computer lab. Visiting professional artists, designers, curators, and writers engage with residents via lectures, critiques, and workshops. Visits to museums, contemporary exhibitions and cultural spaces in and around Paris will be organized to complement and enrich residents’ creative development.

Artists Research Laboratory

CSAV – Artists Research Laboratory is a project where dialogue and exchange among artists of different generations and nationalities stand at the heart of a unique artistic and learning experience. The lab is open to fifteen young artists of all nationalities, selected among the applicants by a jury. The programme lasts twenty-four days during which the participants attend a daily workshop activity and theoretical seminars run by the invited artist, the director, the curators and guest lecturers, as well as conferences held by artists, critics and experts of other disciplines.

The 19th edition of the laboratory, titled Meaning of Things, will be held in Como from the 5th to the 29th of July 2013. American artist Matt Mullican will be leading the workshop.

SDG (Sámi Center for Contemporary Art) announces the Iver Jåks Artist-In-Residency Program 2013. Named after the late Sami artist Iver Jåks, this international artist-in-residence program offers a two months residency in Karasjok, Norway.

1. Professional visual artists are eligible to apply for Iver JÃ¥ks Residency Program

2. Iver JÃ¥ks Residency Program offers a residency period for up to two months (minimum 1 month) in Karasjok, Norway.

3. Iver JÃ¥ks Residency Program includes a stipend of 20000 NOK, accommodation, access to studio/atelier, as well as travel expenses for the artist. The stipend covers living expenses as well as production costs. Further production costs are negotiable.

4. Available residency period for 2013 is 1st of June to 31st of October.

5. The application must include application letter, curriculum vitae and a digital portfolio. Applications are only received digitally. Send your application to samidaiddaguovddas@gmail.com.

6. Deadline is at 23.59, March 10, 2013.

7. The selection of residency artist will be carried out during March and first part of April. The results are expected to be announce by mid-April. The artistic advisory board at Sami Center for Contemporary Art will make the selection. Quality of artistic practice is the exclusive selection criteria. Choice of artist will not be motivated or justified, and cannot be questioned. Sami Center for Contemporary Art administers the residency program and is the host during the residency period.

8. The combined apartment and atelier at the Iver JÃ¥ks house in Karasjok will function as living and working space for the artist-in-residence.

9. A contract between selected artist and Sámi Center for Contemporary Art will be organized, detailing residency conditions.

Leading contemporary art gallery White Cube has invited São Paulo-based curator Adriano Pedrosa to curate an exhibition at their Mason’s Yard gallery, London, in July 2013.

Pedrosa’s project, titled Open Cube, will attempt to infiltrate the hierarchies of the gallery system by inviting any interested artists to submit works to be included in the exhibition. By opening up the selection process, Pedrosa wishes to unsettle the system of gallery practices, initiating a dialogue with artists that might not have access to this network.

Shortlisted artists must be available for interviews in London with Adriano Pedrosa in March and April.
A comprehensive catalogue with texts by Pedrosa will accompany the exhibition.

HABEAS CORPUS. FUNCIONES Y DISFUNCIONES DE LA FIGURA DEL TESTIMONIO

A prática da curadoria de arte contemporânea evoluiu para uma atividade de pesquisa avançada e proposição de reflexão crítica, que se apóia em artistas, processos e obras. Destaco esta interessante exposição coletiva inaugurada em Tarragona, Espanha, que discute o termo habeas corpus, o qual provem do latin ‘tenha teu corpo presente’, e como se definiria presencialidade hoje. «Habeas corpus» es una muestra colectiva, comisariada por Cèlia del Diego, que pone en relación un conjunto de proyectos artísticos que permiten abordar de manera compleja la figura del testigo. El término habeas corpus, que proviene del latín ‘ten tu cuerpo presente’, se utiliza en derecho para referirse a la institución procesal que, con el fin de proteger la libertad del detenido, lo pone inmediatamente a disposición del juez. Frente a la anunciada banalización del testimonio, a causa de la proliferación de medios de comunicación y redes sociales que convierten a cualquier persona que presencia un hecho en un enviado al centro de la noticia y en una fuente fiable de información, esta muestra convoca metafóricamente a la figura del testigo para someterla a juicio y le ofrece la posibilidad de abogar por su valor, al mismo tiempo que cuestiona su vigencia como transmisora de una verdad objetiva.

El papel de testigo es el responsable en buena parte de la información que recibimos hoy sobre lo que ocurre en el mundo. La narración de experiencias personales ha dejado de ser considerada un recurso secundario en la construcción de la historia para ocupar un lugar privilegiado y ejercer una especie de fascinación que le otorga una credibilidad y un valor que parece que no requieran comprobación, aunque a menudo los relatos están más cercanos del espectáculo que del rigor. La democratización de la accesibilidad a la información, que facilita la proximidad al lugar de los hechos, lejos de hacer realidad la aspiración moderna de la crónica objetiva, ha hecho posible la proliferación de versiones sobre el mismo suceso. Cada una de las personas que ha asistido a un acontecimiento es susceptible de proveernos de un relato sobre la verdad de éste, un relato subrayado por su condición de testigo presencial. Es así como esos relatos particulares, subjetivos y parciales apelan al crédito y la confianza del otro y comprometen valores asociados a la idea de veracidad: la evidencia, la objetividad y la intersubjetividad”.
